Project Description

In the early 20th century, women were so much more than the image that so often portrayed them. As artists, creators and key figures in a changing society, they are at the heart of Mais que pó-de-arroz. Mulheres em 1900 / More than Rouge. Women in 1900, a bilingual exhibition held at the Arte Nova Museum in Aveiro.

To give visual expression to this narrative, Exxa Design Studio developed the exhibition design, the catalogue and promotional materials, establishing a dialogue between the ornamental richness of Art Nouveau and a contemporary graphic language.

Warm tones, delicate patterns, exhibition structures with clean lines and backlit portraits blend seamlessly with the museum’s architecture. Each element has been designed to showcase the artworks, guide the viewer’s gaze and create a journey in which information, memory and visual expression complement one another.

This identity is reflected in the bilingual catalogue, a publication in which the typography, layout and treatment of the images seek to strike a balance between documentary rigour and the aesthetic sensibility of the era.

A project that combines exhibition design, visual communication and editorial design, taking an integrated approach that respects heritage, showcases the content and draws on history as a source of inspiration for contemporary expression.
