Project Description

As part of the programme to celebrate AVEIRO PORTUGUESE CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2024, we continue to be entrusted by the Municipality with the graphic and editorial design of the exhibition ‘Engenho e Arte – As Fábricas de Louça de Aveiro’ (Ingenuity and Art – The Aveiro Crockery Factories) in the temporary exhibition space of the Municipal Museum. The exhibition was curated by Marzia Bruno, with the assistance of Patrícia Sarrico.

In a collaborative effort, we created the poster, all the promotional and communication media on social networks, the room sheet, the decoration of the space with prints and phrases. We drew the silhouette of the façade of the 9 factories that were part of the exhibition in vector format. We supplied various materials and also did the layout, graphic design, photo processing and printing of the exhibition catalogue.
The ceramics industry in Aveiro has played a fundamental role in the growth and development of the local economy. Secularly based on the pottery tradition, they have benefited from the presence of raw materials, skilled and qualified labour and market conditions, becoming an integral part of Aveiro’s identity. These industries have produced thousands of pieces in more than 200 years! The production of utilitarian and decorative crockery, with a wide range of shapes, uses and decorations, has accompanied aesthetic evolution and established Aveiro as an important production centre. By highlighting the “first batches”, we invite you to enter a fascinating and eloquent universe that this exhibition aims to make known and valorise!
